Last night, Shea participated in the hooding ceremony for his PhD. Shea's dad and step-mom came into town Thursday night and his grandma, mom, step-dad and brother arrived yesterday morning in order to help us celebrate. The ceremony took place last night at 6:30pm. The timing was a bit tough since Truman typically goes to sleep at 7:30pm. With all of the excitement, he didn't fall asleep until almost 11pm!!!
But back to the ceremony! We arrived at the Durham convention center and snapped a couple of photos. They came out surprisingly well, I think!
Then Truman and I sat with Shea's parents while he went to his assigned seat with his department:
With the lighting, we didn't actually get any great pictures of Shea being 'hooded'. They did, however, take official photos at the event so maybe we'll be able to purchase one of those. Here's the best one we got last night.
As we suspected would happen, Truman basically refused to sit still for any of the ceremony. It was okay, though, because we purposely sat right next to the door and Truman and I spent the whole ceremony running up and down the hallways. I could hear the announcements, though, so I knew when it was Shea's turn and I got to pop back in and see him walk across the stage.
After the ceremony, they opened up another room at the Convention Center and served delicious food, including Truman's favorite - hummus! Like I mentioned earlier, Truman ended up staying awake through the whole event (and the whole car ride home). At a couple of times he came really close to falling asleep, but there was just too much excitement. Before we left, we took some more family pictures!
All in all it was a fun, albeit exhausting, night! Congratulations again to my doctor husband! We are all so incredibly PROUD of you!!!!
