Two years ago today Shea and I walked up several flights of stairs in the courthouse in Addis Ababa where we were ushered into a large waiting room full of people. After waiting for close to an hour, we were called in front of an Ethiopian judge who asked us various questions about our ability and willingness to parent Truman Bekalu. We walked out of the room unsure of how it went, until our adoption agency's in-country representative, Ato Teklu, came out about 15 minutes later to tell us it was official - we were Truman Bekalu's legal parents!
We then walked down the road to a coffee shop where we ordered some pastries. After much cajoling, we convinced Ato Teklu that we were ready and willing to take custody of our precious little boy that day (he thought we'd want another day or two off of 'parent duty'). Within two hours Truman Bekalu was in our arms, and it was the best feeling in the world! Truman - you are the joy of our lives!!!
