Very Belated Happy Thanksgiving
Sorry all - we are a bit behind on our blogging! For those who don't know, a terrible stomach bug has been ravaging our household which has definitely putting blogging (and everything else!) on the back-burner for a bit. Now that we are all starting to feel a bit better, it seemed like the right time to document our holiday experience :-)
Anyway, we were lucky enough to have Grandma Bernard and Uncle Steve come visit us in NC for Thanksgiving. This happened to be the first time that Steve has met the newest addition to the family, and we were all so excited! Grandma and Uncle Steve were supposed to arrive together on Wednesday, but due to some plane complications (what else is new?) Grandma arrived a bit later in the day. Anyway, the first meeting between uncle and nephew happened while Truman was asleep, but we decided to document the moment nonetheless!
Soon our Sweet T was awake and a proper introduction could occur! It was so great for the boys to finally meet.
Not too much later, Grandma Bernard arrived and was able to join in on the family fun - which, of course, included Truman's new favorite activity - clapping!
Thanksgiving day turned out to be wonderful - Truman was a bit sick to his tummy but he was in a good mood regardless. We all had a great meal and enjoyed some wonderful family time. (Unfortunately, most of the pictures we took are still on Grandma Bernard's camera - hopefully I can add more pictures soon).
Friday morning is when things really started to go downhill. First off, Truman continued to poop up a storm, and soon Grandma Bernard and myself weren't feeling so hot, either. Within hours, we were both out of commission for the rest of the day and unfortunately our family time was cut short. Grandma ended up leaving Saturday morning still not feeling great. Luckily, she got home quickly and was able to rest up in the comfort of her own home. Uncle Steve stayed until Sunday afternoon and was able to squeeze in more quality time with Truman. Our little boy just LOVED playing with Steve's beard - so cute!
So all in all, the trip had some ups and downs, but overall we were so thankful to have the family together even if for a short time. Hopefully we will all stay well and healthy during winter break!

Truman Updates
Wow - it is so fun to watch our baby grow! It feels like everyday Truman does or says something new. Here is a list of things our boy has been up to:
Height/Weight: Last Friday we had Truman's 9-month doctor appointment. Last time we went he was 80th percentile for weight and 50th percentile for height. Well, he has evened out! He is now 80th percentile for weight (22lbs 13oz) and 75th percentile for height (28-3/4 inches). He's our big, big boy! Everything at the check-up went well, though he had to get another 4 shots (poor guy!), but he took them like a champ :-)
Teeth: Truman now has 3 teeth! Last Wednesday #3 broke through - it's his top middle left tooth. His top middle right is also VERY close to presenting itself.
Food: We have added a few foods to Truman's repertoire, including yogurt (one of his new favorite foods!), tofu (we just throw 1oz cubes of it into veggies or fruits to add protein), couscous (he loved it!) blueberries, green beans, and banana puffs. He continues to enjoy every food we present, which is definitely a good thing. This week we're going to introduce some turkey for Thanksgiving - we'll let you know how it goes!
Movement: He can now pull up on anything and everything in sight. Cruising is old-hat, and he can take steps from one object to the other while cruising. He's also learned how to turn corners on furniture when cruising and can bend down to retrieve a dropped object while continuing his grip on the furniture, then pull himself back up one-handed. His crawling speed increases daily! His favorite things to crawl after are his beloved dog and cat :-) When in his walker, he totally understands how to move it around and will now follow Mommy around while she cooks, continually ramming into my feet and legs over and over again - so cute (and painful)!
Language: It seems like everyday Truman uses a new sound in his speech. So far we have heard da's, ga's, aah's, ooh's, la's, ha's, wa's and two distinct ma's. No noticeable words yet - well, he sometimes says "Daddy" but we don't think he is purposefully using the word :-) Truman is also really big on songs - his personal favorites are "This little piggy" and "Patty-cake" - he loves the anticipation of them and gets so excited when it's time for the little piggy to go "weee" all the way home :-) He continues be a big clapper to express his happiness, and has even started to clap "hi" - when we say hi and wave to him he claps at us - adorable!
Daycare: His love for daycare continues to grow! Everyday when he arrives, he laughs at other children and gets excited to go find his favorite toys. His teachers keep telling us that he is such a pleasant, fun little guy - once they told us he was the easiest baby to take care of because he's so happy all of the time! He continues to be very social with the other babies, and has now caused 2 little girls to cry by having to leave for the day (seriously, on two separate occasions two different little girls have started to cry as soon as we picked up Sweet T to leave).
So yes, everything continues to go wonderfully in our lives! Everyday is a gift and we are so thankful :-)

Post-Placement #1 Pictures
As we mentioned several weeks ago, we recently had our first post-placement visit with our social worker. I thought everyone might be interested to see which pictures we decided to send in with the report (which is then sent to the Ethiopian government). It was strange how loose the requirements regarding pictures were. All we were told was to send 4-6 pictures of Truman Bekalu, and that it would be "a plus" if Shea and I were included - strange, right? Anyway, here are the 6 pictures we chose:
